Dolomite

Dolomite rock is a sedimentary carbonate rock, which is composed predominantly of the mineral dolomite.  It should not be confused with the mineral also named dolomite.  Dolomite rock is similar to limestone but the main constituent of limestone (calcium carbonate) was replaced by calcium magnesium carbonate.  Dolomite is usually very similar to limestone and the two are often indistinguishable in the field.

Dolomite is offered in slabs that can be used for countertops or floor tiles.  The slabs can be confused with travertine and marble.
