Walton Masonry Staff

Scott Walton
Operations Manager

As Operations Manager, Scott assigns contracted jobs to Project Managers — including himself. He sets up job crews for each project and acts as Project Mgr. for his own assigned jobs. Scott must keep track of both equipment and material mobilized for various jobs while he must also make sure billings go out. He assists our estimators by meeting owners at potential job sites to determine the scope of their project and assess the desires of the client to assure a quality outcome. On larger jobs he meets with Architects and General Contractors. He puts together a package of activities to be bid and submits job site information to the Estimator. He works with the estimators to put together the proposals, to assure they are clear to the general contractors, and that the list of activities or scope of work are understood by all parties.

You might say Scott cut his teeth on brick, pulling joints in grout with a brick jointer when he was a small boy learning to help his dad on weekend masonry projects. Scott showed talent as a mason and came to work for his dad in April 1986 when he was 19. He worked for Walton Masonry for 18 years and then in 2004, as sons will, he struck out on his own. He moved up to the gold country where he worked for himself and other masonry companies building quality homes. With 30 years of masonry experience under his belt, Scott returned to Walton & Sons Masonry in March 2016.

Scott is the proud father of four children, including Meranda Walton, our Estimator. Having lived in the gold country for 12 years, he commutes to our branch office in San Carlos during the week. He is engaged to April Stadelman and they plan to marry next May. Scott and all his kids like to live an active mountain lifestyle. They love to ski, river raft, ride dirt bikes and hike on the mountain trails of the Sierra Nevada.

Sylvia Gartner
Office Manager

In addition to office staff supervision of payroll and clerical procedures, we rely on Sylvia to provide company insurance compliance to customers and to review and analyze sub-contracts.  She also maintains the documentation required by the DMV and the US Dept. of Transportation fleet inspections.  Sylvia uses the American Contractor software to create monthly accounting reports and also works closely with an outside CPA who prepares the firm’s corporate tax returns.

Sylvia is a fourth generation Akron, Ohio resident but broke the mold when she moved to California.  With an AA degree and before joining Walton & Sons Masonry, 24 years ago, Sylvia worked at Atari and then at Catalyst, a high tech incubator as Personal Assistant to Nolan Bushnell.  We were lucky to inherit her office management skills.  Compared to high tech, she says she likes the low-key atmosphere of construction.  She likes to see examples of our work all over the Bay Area and she takes pride in the craftsmanship of our Journeyman masons.

Sylvia has studied Spanish for 20 years and is also fluent in Italian.  A frequent European traveler and voracious reader, she belongs to two book clubs and has served for 18 years as Treasurer and active member of her Palo Alto neighborhood association.

Graciela Alvarez

Payroll Administrator/Accounts Payable

Graciela is responsible for all of our payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable.  It is an exacting task and she works hard to make sure everything goes smoothly.  Graciela has over 20 years of experience in Payroll and extensive knowledge dealing with HR and related departments.  She has contributed greatly in our company’s success over the past eleven years.

Graciela is from the beautiful state of Zacatecas, Mexico and attended La Academia comercial Regssard in Guadalajara, Jalisco.  A wife and mother of three, she is also one of four daughters and maintains close family ties with her parents and a large extended family.

Jennifer Montez

Operations Assistant

Jennifer is the first voice that people hear when they call Walton & Sons Masonry.  She has been our “first voice” for ten years.  In addition to phone duties, Jennifer juggles many other tasks.  She assists all of the office staff and Project Managers.  When a proposal is accepted she turns it into a job and distributes files to Accounting and the Project Managers.  Jenny types daily reports for each job so that labor hours can be tracked.  She collects and organizes all timesheets in preparation for payroll entry.

Jennifer is enthusiastic about masonry saying, “I believe good masonry is necessary to make ordinary into extraordinary.  Buildings without masonry are just plain boring.”

Jennifer is native to Morgan Hill.  After graduating from Live Oak High School she spent ten years doing office clerical work before she began what she calls her most important job.  Jenny was a stay-at-home mom for 17 years.  She raised three daughters before rejoining the workforce at Walton & Sons Masonry.  She loves spending time with her family, going camping and riding their quads, especially at Pismo.  Today, Jennifer is grandmother of two with another one on the way.  “They are the light of my life and keep me young.”
