Rusticity is a masonry technique to make a material or structure appear to have a rustic, plain, rural and country appearance.
A technique called antiquing can be applied to a masonry material so as to create the appearance of an ancient or traditional structure. Brick or stone masonry veneer can be set so that the finished structure has crumbling or missing brick with extruded mortar. In this way, a modern water tank can appear to be falling down after a century of exposure.
